Inferno Drainer Resurges: Over $2 Million Stolen from Crypto Wallets in Six Months

Despite announcements of its 2023 shutdown, Inferno Drainer has reemerged, extracting significant value from users over the past six months. The threat has targeted cryptocurrency holders across major networks, including Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Polygon.

What is the meaning of Inferno Drainer?

Inferno Drainer operates as a “Scam-as-a-Service” malware platform marketed to cybercriminals for large-scale phishing operations. It impersonates legitimate interfaces to induce users to connect their wallets and inadvertently authorize malicious transactions.

The current campaign extends beyond counterfeit decentralized applications. The resurgence includes a targeted phishing initiative aimed at Discord users. Adversaries employed social engineering to redirect traffic from an authentic Web3 project to a fraudulent replica of a widely used Discord verification bot. The spoofed site deceived victims into signing malicious transactions, granting attackers direct control over their wallets.
